OUR NAME

All the benefits of salvation come to the follower of Jesus through their union with him. This is an incredible thing to consider! The God of the universe has chosen not only to save, but to be united to his people! His resurrection power now lives within us, empowering us to do what he has said and bring this reality to bear in our work, our relationships, our words, our actions and every sphere of life.

And now that the dividing wall of hostility between God and man has been replaced by this union, the people of God are also brought into union with one another. Throughout Scripture, whenever the gospel comes to a place, it begins to mend the divisions between peoples. The Bible even ends with a vision of an uncountable multitude from all nations, whose fractures have been healed, worshiping in union with him and one another.

Union Athens is named as a reflection of this beautiful reality, and as an aspiration to bring the good news of union with Christ to our city, not only through our words, but our embodiment of the heart of God, in building relationships and serving our community cross-culturally.
